Learn more about Veronica Guido

Veronica Guido is a lawyer by day, writer by night, Yoga & Mindfulness teacher, lover of coffee and travel, and even a third-generation Tarot reader.
She received her BA Hons in Political Science with a minor in Humanities & literature from York University, Toronto, Canada in 2016. She immediately pursed her Juris Doctor law degree from The University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, which she received in 2019. After articling, she decided to go back to school, completing an LLM Masters of Law in 2021 from Osgoode Hall, York University. In 2023, she began a Creative Writing Certificate at The University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies.
Veronica writes flash fiction and poetry, though her true love is as a novelist. Her debut novel, The Rose of Ravenna is currently in the publishing / production process, and is due to hit bookshelves (real & virtual) in 2026.
A lover of classics, Roman-Greco mythology (she has a tattoo dedicated to Homer), and the history of her Italian father, Veronica writes historical adaptations of those living in Italy during its formative years. Spanning from pre-Rome, to the bloody division of Empire and Papacy, to the Renaissance, Veronica writes about the dark truths of life along the sunny peninsula.
Veronica uses classic Italian literature and art as her inspiration, drawing on the greats the likes of Dante and Ovid, retelling the stories of the women too often overlooked in the original poems, keeping true to the struggles, issues, and lives they would have lived.
Veronica’s father is from Calabria, Italy, and she tries to visit Italy every year. While the south of Italy has her heart (and bloodline), she is a deep lover of the eternal city, Rome, and Florence, both of which have stolen parts of her heart.
Veronica’s mother is of Indigenous ancestry, and many of the teachings impart themselves in her stories, such as the use of plants and nature as literary devices. She is also a third generation Tarot reader on her mother’s side (despite Tarot being from her Italian side), which has strongly influenced her second novel, The Fall of the House of Sfroza. She is a big fan of duality in her life, often blending the stories, histories, teachings, and families of her maternal and paternal sides, both in her writing endeavors and professionally. In 2020, she wrote her Masters of Law thesis, where she used Homer’s The Odyssey to demonstrate the Canadian law on the Duty to Consult. She is also a Yoga and Mindfulness teacher. You can find her guiding students through flows a couple times a week at her local studio.
She was born and raised in Toronto, where she lives and works with her husband, Bilal, and their calico, Inde. She is a proud sister of two, and an aunt to her beloved niece and nephew.
